Summer in the City

Summer is around the corner up here in the Northern Hemisphere (or so they keep saying in London!)

At this time of year, A sun-kissed glow dresses the face, so I like sheer textures and a glowy, healthy look. I tend to go for a less makeup in the summer, it just feels right, and sweat + lots of makeup= oil slick.. Not Good

Here are my summer makeup & skincare tips:

Keep skin clean and bright by gently buffing everyday with a muslin cloth cleanser like the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Emma Hardie Moringa Balm or just pure organic coconut oil. You can also twice a week with a gentle exfoliant like the SKIN & TONIC Gentle Scrub. For daytime, try a moisturiser  (or just a primer if it is too hot/muggy ) that contains Broad Spectrum SPF.   Although I normally love radiance in skincare, at this time of year it is best to not apply something with shimmer all over in the daytime. I am loving the Balance Me BB Cream which has sunscreen in it,  but am also a fan of the Rose Dew by A La Carte Cosmetics

If you are outdoors a lot, always use a sunscreen formulated specifically for the face as it is less likely to clog pores. Try Green People for Organic or JASON for natural mineral Sunscreen. Also, you can eat foods like Avocados to boost your natural defence or you can make your own!

If you find your skin getting dehydrated from too much sun, try a hydrating mask of Organic Full Fat Greek Yoghurt for 15 minutes twice a week. You can also Use plain oils like Coconut,  try some Sister & Co. Coconut Oil applied on the faces and wiped off 10 minutes later with a warm cloth.  I am also leaning about drinking some water salted with Natural Salts as per this amazing article. Including healthy salts like unprocessed Himalayan or Celtic Grey allows the body to regulate hydration more effectively because of it's high trace minerals content.

For your Face, this is a great time to opt for a tinted moisturiser and plenty have sun protection in them, in case you did not have any in your skincare. Try Ilia Sheer Vivid Tinted Moisturiser or A La Carte Moisture Tint

For Cheeks, I love Becca Beach Tint for cheeks in Guava or Poppy Red. This lovely little product delivers a lovely sheer but waterproof colour and brightness. I also love the Ilia  multiple sticks or check out this LIMITED EDITION Tarte Lip/Cheek palette for a quick and easy cheek option.

Keep eyes simple by using a long lasting shimmery stick or cream formula, the newest ones stay put and last hours like Ilia Silken Shadow sticks or try RMS eyeshadows. Blend over the eyelid and gently up into the socket,  leaving the brow bone bare. If you have oily lids, power formulas may be better, or just use concealer and setting powder for a clean look. Try Dr Hauschka Limited Edition Rose Gold palette (I got one ages ago, use it All the time), Delilah, or inexpensive Sleek Makeup Palettes (cruelty free did you know!?)

For Heat proof mascara try Blinc tube mascara which is smudge proof and waterproof but peels off in little tubes (it is vegan, gluten and cruelty free, but it's active ingredient is an acrylic polymer, so not sure how I feel about that, but it is practical).

Finally, a slick of transluscent colour is modern and fresh. Try Burts Bees Lip Shimmers (I like Cherry the best) or Lipstick QueenSinner and Saint Tints.

Stay Cool in the summer time!
