Tried + Tested by Tahira
I have been using Weleda for years, having seen it in shops and pharmacies since my childhood with summers spent in Europe. More Recently, I reconnected with the brand when my son was born, and we still use the Calendula and White Mallow ranges in the house - both of which are perfect for those with sensitive skin.
The Weleda Hereo is also my hero. You can see my squished tube of Skin Food in the Picture above: This is definitely a hero product I use on a regular basis both at work and at home for just about everything. think of it as a healing balm for roughness, dryness, as a mask etc, read more about Skin Food Here and see how I use it Here
This Range consists of a facial Serum, a Day and Night Cream, and an Eye Cream.
I love the scent and texture of the Pomegranate range. I definitely feel a sensation of tightening when I apply the serum, which has a light thin texture as you would expect with an Aloe Base and Pomegranate Juice to firm skin and smooth wrinkles.
The Pomegranate Day cream is a lovely moisturiser that feels hydrating without being greasy. It spreads easily on the face and feels lovely under makeup with its many lovely oils including Sesame, Jojoba and Argan. For me however, I will be honest, I prefer a slightly richer texture. I have quite dry skin and I need something with a slightly heavier feel to really seal in the moisture. but It is a really good moisturiser.
The eye cream is also light and spreads very easily and in fact, very little goes a long way. I would actually suggest to Weleda to make more of a nozzle tip to reduce the amount.
Birch Scrub + Rose Oil
I have dry skin all over my body, and I am always slathering myself in oils and body butters to prevent my skin from flaking and cracking. I was keen to try the Birch scrub on my thighs because I have a little bit of (ahem) cellulite.
I love the scent and feel of the Body scrub, but I did not find the wax pearls strong enough for me. I like the idea of them, non polluting and easily diluted in the shower, but I thinkI should have tried it with the Weleda Body Brush for maximum results
I am IN LOVE with the Wild Rose Body Oil. Jojoba and Sweet Almond Oil are blended with Damascus rose to create a rich moisturizing oil perfect to protect my skin. I apply oil mixed with moisturizer after every shower. Pair with the Rose Body lotion to layer perfume for a longer lasting scent.
Lavender Bath + Evening Primrose Hand Cream
The Lavender Bath is one of my favourite Weleda Products. The scent is rich and enveloping and lasts long after I have left the bathtub (on the rare occasions I do get to take the time for a bath).
Here is a trick, make yourself a calming compress by placing a few drops on a warm damp face cloth and place on your forehead or the back of your neck.
In fairness, I love all the Weleda Hand Creams but this is definitely a favourite. The rich texture absorbs quickly without stickiness (I find the Pomegranate one a little sticky though I love the scent) and leaves my very rough and dry hands feeling hydrated and soft. as a chronic cuticle picker, this is a great healing balm to prevent any "ridges" for me to pick (cuticle pickers you know what I mean)
A Brief Natural History of Weleda
Weleda was founded in 1921 by the Austrian philosopher and natural scientist, Rudolf Steiner, Dutch doctor Ita Wegman and Oskar Schmiedel, a chemist and pharmacist from Munich in Germany. The company is still based on the philosophic ideology and high values of anthroposophy - or the Wisdom of Man (Steiner)
Steiner wanted to create what would now be called a wellness brand:
" Weleda’s goal is to maintain, enhance and restore the health of people " - Weleda Website
Weleda gets its name from a real Woman, a Healing High Priestess, considered a prophetess and strong Female Power in her community. The company now creates products for the health and beauty of the body, inside and out. They have a full range of skincare, body care, hair care, dental, and more, including treatment for internal issues such as digestion or minor injuries.
This ethos of healing and community is also represented in its symbol: The graphic representation of the snake and staff, a traditional symbol of medicine, also has 2 curved lines surrounding it, designed by Steiner himself to symbolize care, concern and the exchange between patient and practitioner.
Committed to the integrity of their ingredients, Weleda has biodynamic Farms or Gardens around the world, and have offices in Germany, Switzerland and France. Weleda is constantly striving to improve both the products and the packaging which they come in. This commitment is so great that I was told when the Calendula (Marigold) Harvest was poor a few years ago, rather than import extra from elsewhere, they simply made less product. That is one of the most outstanding acts of integrity I have ever heard.
Weleda is committed to treat its employees and partners with fairness and working with cooperatives and institutions that ensure economic and social fairness in remuneration. See Weleda's full Sustainability Policy
I really trust and love Weleda, they are a perfect brand for an introduction into Green Beauty and make fantastic gifts for everyone.
